It's Christmas Eve. The snow is falling, people are caroling and skating, and he's been dropped off at his house. He says goodbye to someone--a man, with a kindly smile--and enters his house.

Then he hears a bang, and opens a door to find a blazing fire, a man with a tattoo on his hand, and the corpses of his parents.

It ends there.

Remember the scene where a teenaged Barnaby shouts at a criminal in a straitjacket, asking what that symbol means, and gets the word "Ouroboros" in return? Yes, well, he's just remembered it as well. He's also remembered that the guy died some time later, but he's not sure as to how much time passed between his trial and his death.
